I worked with Ryan K. a booking rep with Afton. I feel that he communicated very effectively and wanted to insure that my show was successful. At the end i was promised a check and recieved the full amount which was $109.00. I did not have any issue cashing the check. Afton is not a scam as some may think, but looks to help give you exposure as well as getting paid to do your show. Good overall experience.
Our band has used Afton's services twice now with positive results. So far they have shown to provide the exact service that they advertise and the actions they ask of performers are clearly stated and reasonable. If you do not want t actively market and sell tickets for Afton events that you are a part of, then this isn't the service for you. But, if you agree that helping to promote yourself is reasonable and that showing up on time is minimal professional courtesy, Afton can help you get gigs in good venues and expand your audience with new crowds. I put a score of 7/10 in my "would we recommend" answer simply because I think it depends on the act and where they are in their career arc.
I had a great time and my first show went way better than expected, the crowd was loud and very entertained, even fans that weren't there to see me perform. I would like to thank Afton for finding me and reaching out and giving me the opportunity to do a show. Also like to thank Amy, she has been very helpful and helped to perform a great show my experience has been great so far and I look to grow.
I had a really good booking experience with Afton! I am singer/songwriter in Portland. It seems weird at first, because they often contact people out of the blue, but I sold a few presale tickets, and played with some bands that ended up being really good. I didn't even sell the promised 15, more like 9. I guess if you sell no tickets though they might kick you off the bill.. The system takes a minute to figure out. My personal experience though, the sound man was great, there was a good audience, and I met great musicians. So maybe worth it for that, way easier than booking your own gigs.
I have nothing but positive things to say about Afton. As long as you have a good attitude, the things they ask of you are easily manageable. In return, they deliver outstanding communication and constant check ups to see how everything is going. The show itself that I played was well organized, a great diverse group of musicians, and a blast to be a part of. Will definitely work with them again.
Originally I thought it was too good to be true but Afton follows through on everything that they promise the artist. Full of information on how to better promote and excel in the realm of live music, their reps are very responsive to emails and seem like they truly care about helping artists. Because it is still a business, I think any negative reviews from artists are based on illegitimate feelings towards the amount (or rather, lack there of) of people they weren't able to draw to their performance, which contractually voids their set. To me, this helped filter out artists who didn't have much sweat in the game and didn't promote to the level of the artists that were able to draw crowds. Ultimately, every artist and band is able to feed off each other's crowds and if you didn't bring one you didn't get to perform. Still playing nice and being fair to the artists, though, Afton does provide the opportunity to reschedule to a different date and venue rather than just cancel your set altogether.
